Making cemetery arrangement decisions for yourself or a loved one can be very difficult. There is so much to decide, and most people are unfamiliar with their options and find the terminology confusing. When the arrangements are made at the time of need, people are already under great stress, which adds to the challenge.
Union Cemetery offers a variety of services and products personalized to memorialize you or your loved one.
Our respectful, professional staff members are available to help you and your family make the right choices.
There are primarily three cemetery options to consider - traditional earth burial,
cremation and mausoleum entombment. Arrangements for each may be made in advance
or at the time of a death.
Secular or religious services can be performed weekdays and until noon on
Saturday by the religious leader or another person of your choice. Or if needed,
we can arrange for clergy for you.
The cemetery options are summarized below, and detailed definitions of funeral
industry terms are available in the Glossary section of this site.
- For a traditional earth burial, you'll require a burial space, burial vault,
interment service and a memorial stone. Spaces are available in several areas
throughout Union Cemetery, so you will have many locations from which to choose.
The space and interment fees can be planned and paid in advance (pre-need)
or at the time of need. You can select and arrange for a memorial whenever you desire.
Flush markers, bevel markers (slightly raised) and monuments are permitted and available
through the cemetery, as are in-ground and monument flower vases and flag holders.
Prices for these items and services vary, depending on your selection,
but here is an idea of the ranges:

No Saturday afternoon Interments will be scheduled unless it is before a Monday Holiday and then only if
the Cemetery's Saturday morning schedule is full.
NO INTERMENTS AFTER 12:00 NOON the day before Christmas and New Years or on these holidays:
New Years Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Funerals arriving after 12:00 noon on Saturday will be assessed an additional late charge of $ 125.00 for each half hour thereafter.

- Caskets: Union Cemetery is pleased to now offer a complete line of steel and wooden caskets. Eleven models are available in a variety of styles and colors that are priced to accommodate immediate as well as pre-need.

- For mausoleum entombment, Union Cemetery offers both indoor and outside crypts.
Mausoleum entombment involves the selection of a crypt (space in the building)
and an entombment service. The casket is shielded with a protective cover
and placed inside the crypt. A memorial plaque is attached to the granite
or marble crypt front. The crypt serves as both a resting space and a memorial.

- Cremated remains, or cremains, may be buried
in the ground, inurned in a mausoleum niche or spread in our Memorial
Scattering Garden. Garden mausoleum niches have granite fronts with
bronze name plaques. Chapel niches have clear glass fronts through
which the engraved urn can be seen. A name insert on a bronze plaque
provides the memorial for the Scattering Garden.

 Amaranth Abbey at Union
Amaranth Abbey, a 1925 Italianate mausoleum on Dodridge Street adjacent to Union's oldest sections
became Amaranth Abbey at Union in 2006. Open the impressive bronze doors of the classic granite
building and be awed by the beautiful white marble and priceless stained glass windows.
